Monish’s international work experience over the past seventeen years includes finance and senior management positions in India, Far East Asia, Middle East Asia and Europe - while working for Schlumberger, Barista Coffee, Exl Service, the Harada “Chequepoint” Group (headquartered in London) and KPMG’s Information, Communication and Entertainment (ICE) Practice in India

During his tenure with KPMG and Arthur Andersen, Monish led project teams while conducting statutory and tax audits of manufacturing, food processing and service companies; internal controls and operation reviews of large manufacturing companies; fraud investigations; desk top reviews; due diligence assignments; and he had a special role in establishing KPMG’s ICE practice in India

While working with Schlumberger, Monish was initially responsible for managing their tax and fiscal issues in India. He was transferred to Qatar as “Controller”, with the responsibility to set up financial systems, controls and processes in a fast growing business environment.

As Schlumberger’s operations grew in Qatar, Monish's role was upgraded to “Group Controller” where he was also responsible for ensuring an effective integration of the financial systems, reports, controls and processes of all operating product lines.

On his relocation to India and as part of the start-up management team of Barista Coffee, Monish had institutionalised Financial Controls and Standard Operating Procedures; developed an ESOP; and played a lead role in negotiating with potential investors and in ensuring a landmark business valuation that resulted in a strategic investment through a private placement. Monish was also involved in structuring and forming international holding entities after ascertaining an effective manner of doing business in new countries; in identifying local partners; in establishing local business models and in overseeing overseas brand registrations. During his tenure with this organisation, Monish was nominated for the “CFO of the Year” National leadership award.

At Exl Service, Monish had institutionalised a structured process for internal management reporting - entailing identification of key financial metrics and MIS for the Board of Directors; developed the investment strategy and facilitated the corporate re-structuring; undertaken an extensive transfer pricing study and an exhaustive tax planning exercise to ensure compliance with tax regulations in India and the US.

Business Risk Services (BRS)
Since joining Grant Thornton, Monish has been closely associated with developing and building a multi-location BRS practice.

In the process, Monish has built capability within a team of over hundred & fifty experienced professionals and been responsible for assignments entailing the development of standard operating procedures; structuring of management information flows and related reporting systems; risk profiling, polarization and assessments; corporate governance reviews; performance management and profitability reviews; management and internal audits.

Monish’s client base includes medium and large companies in the areas of ITES, hospitality, oilfield services, real-estate, construction, biotechnology & life sciences, exports, financial institutions & financial services, manufacturing, retail and the United Nations (UNOPS and UNDP). His clients are based in New-Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkatta, Hyderabad, Pune, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Coimbatore & Amritsar.

Corporate Advisory Services
As part of Grant Thornton’s Corporate Advisory team, Monish has led teams in several due diligence reviews and special investigative assignments in India, United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Myanmar.

Monish was nominated to form a part of a team of 33 partners from various offices of Grant Thornton member firms globally.

This team attended an extensive leadership and business management program in 2004-05; at the Stanford University, San Francisco, Brussels and the United Kingdom. This program was management if the IFL Swedish Institute of Management.

Professional qualifications and memberships
Monish has been an office bearer (“Secretary”) on the Board of Governors of the Institute of Internal Auditors of India (Delhi Chapter) and he was also on the Board of Governors of the Doha Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He is a regular public speaker at seminars and conferences on topics related to his areas of expertise.
